Winter Classic Reaction

I think there is something wrong with me (no comments, please). I found out yesterday that the Flyers are playing the Bruins in the Annual Winter Classic (played on Jan 1 - for those of you who do not know). I feel very apathetic about this. AKA I don't really care. Why? I am not sure. I do not think the Bruins are really a rival for the Flyers. I won't be able to get tickets (nor will I really want to spend the entire day freezing my patootie off in the middle of winter). I will probably watch, but be too drunk or hungover to care. Overall, my overwhelming emotion on this is: meh. We'll see. Maybe I will be more excited about it as the date draws closer. I am probably one of the few Flyers fans who is not totally enthused about this. Plus, I kind of think the Capitals should be in it... *ducks and waits for rotten tomato throwing*

Does Anyone Else Think This is Odd?

That is the opening page for the Flyers website. Two guys who have yet to play a game for the Orange and Black are wearing the Orange and Black. So the Flyers employ a Photoshopper on their staff, which is cool. Whatever. I am sure Coburn is fine with Pronger stealing his body. Not so sure Biron is ok with Emery stealing his body. I mean, how much of a blow is that? The guy steals your job and your body all in one day. Tough.

Oh, Andy!

Bad News: So close to that elusive 2nd Grand Slam title. And it was at Wimbledon, where I know how much he wants to win. He had a few chances to put Federer away, but could not convert. I actually almost cried at the end. I really thought he had a chance to win it, and now I am afraid that perhaps he will never win another Grand Slam. I think he got a little lucky in that Nadal did not play in this tournament, and that he did not have to go through #1 and #2.

Good News: He looks better than ever. He almost took out the #1 player in the world right now, holder of 15 Grand Slam titles. He came all the way back from almost obscurity to playing in the Wimbledon final, where he genuinely had a chance to win. His backhand is much improved. His fitness and quickness is better. He looks like he's got his head together. Plus there's always next year, right?

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!

What is Up With Manny?

So Manny is back from his 50 game suspension for steroids. How do the fans react? They are cheering him. They are acting like he is coming back from the DL, not like he is coming back from a suspension for CHEATING! He is a good player, and I used to be a fan of his. But now I cannot look at him without thinking about if any of what he has done in his career is real. It's sad. It is also interesting to note the dichotomy between the fan reaction to Manny and the reactions to Sosa, Bonds, Palmeiro, or McGwire. I guess we will see what happens when the Dodgers get away from South California.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy 4th of July! I hope everyone is enjoying some picnicking, food, fireworks, beach, baseball or however else you celebrate this day. Enjoy!
